Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
Picture Pick (“Picture Pick,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) helps you decide what to watch by asking a few questions about your mood and recommending a single movie. We care about your privacy and keep the data we collect to the minimum needed to make the product work.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights and choices you have. It applies to the Picture Pick website and the Picture Pick apps for iOS and Android (together, the “Service”).
1. Information we collect
a) Information you provide
- Account & sign-in. You can sign in with Email and password, Google, or Apple. Depending on the method, we receive your email address and, where available, your name and profile picture. If you use Sign in with Appleand choose “Hide My Email,” we only ever receive Apple’s anonymized private-relay email address, never your real one.
- Profile. A display name you set and an optional avatar image you upload from your device. Avatars are resized and stored with your profile.
- Your preferences & activity.Your quiz answers, the movies you favorite, mark as “going to watch,” mark as watched, or skip, and the number of quizzes you complete.
b) Information collected automatically
- Usage & analytics events. Through our analytics provider we record in-app events such as quizzes started and completed, movies recommended and shuffled, items favorited, and sign-ins. These help us understand which features are used and improve them.
- Device & technical information. Basic technical data such as device or browser type, operating system and app version, language, a per-install app-instance identifier, and approximate region inferred from your IP address. This is used to operate the Service and keep it reliable and secure.
- Website analytics. On our website we use privacy- friendly, aggregate analytics to measure traffic and performance. These do not use cookies to track you across other sites.
c) Guest mode. You can use Picture Pick without creating an account. In guest mode your activity is tied to an anonymous identifier on your device, not to your identity. If you later sign in, your guest data can be carried over to your account.
2. How we use your information
- Provide the core feature — recommending a movie based on your mood, time, viewing context, and history.
- Save your favorites, watch log, and profile, and sync them across your devices when you are signed in.
- Understand how the Service is used so we can fix problems and improve it.
- Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and enforce rate limits.
- Communicate with you about important changes or respond to your support requests.
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. AI-powered recommendations
To generate your recommendations, we send your quiz answers and the titles of films you have favorited or watched (used as taste signals) to a third-party AI provider, which returns suggested movies. We do not send your name, email, account identifier, or other directly identifying information to the AI provider, and your inputs are not used to train their models.
4. Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on these legal bases:
- Performance of a contract— to provide the Service you request (recommendations, saving your lists, your account).
- Legitimate interests— to secure, maintain, and improve the Service, in a way that does not override your rights.
- Consent— where required, for example optional communications; you can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation— where we must process data to comply with the law.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with trusted service providers (sub-processors) who process it on our behalf to operate the Service, under contracts that require them to protect it. These include providers of:
- Authentication and account storage— to create and secure your account and store your lists and profile.
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure— to run the Service and our website.
- Analytics— to understand and improve usage and performance.
- AI processing— to generate your recommendations from your quiz answers and taste signals (see section 3).
- Sign in with Google and Sign in with Apple— if you choose those options, you authenticate with Google or Apple directly, subject to their privacy policies.
- The Movie Database (TMDB)— movie information, posters, trailers, and streaming availability. Requests for images and trailers may expose your IP address to TMDB and, for trailer playback, to the relevant video provider. Picture Pick uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
For security reasons we do not publish the specific list of our sub-processors, but we will provide it on request to the extent required by applicable law — email support@picturepick.app.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), in which case we will let you know.
6. What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your individual data with advertisers or show you third-party ads.
- We do not track you across other apps and websites, and we do not use advertising identifiers (no IDFA / App Tracking Transparency prompts).
7. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your account record, saved lists, preferences, and profile (including your avatar) are permanently removed (see section 10). Aggregated or de-identified analytics that can no longer be linked to you may be retained, and our analytics provider applies its own standard retention periods.
8. Data security
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS, and we rely on established infrastructure providers with strong security practices. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using reasonable technical and organizational measures.
9. International data transfers
Our providers store and process data on servers that may be located in the United States and other countries. Where personal data is transferred internationally, our providers rely on recognized transfer mechanisms (such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect it.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export (port), or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise many of these directly in the app:
- Access & edit your profile and lists in Your Profile.
- Delete your account and all associated data in Your Profile → Delete account (see section 10 below).
- Use the Service as a guest if you prefer not to create an account (some features, like synced favorites, require an account).
To make any other request, email support@picturepick.app. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
11. Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account at any time, directly in the app: open Your Profile and tap Delete account. This immediately and permanently removes your account, saved lists, preferences, and profile, and cannot be undone. You can also request deletion by emailing support@picturepick.app.
12. California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access to or deletion of it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To exercise your rights, use the in-app controls above or email support@picturepick.app.
13. Children's privacy
Picture Pick is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at support@picturepick.app and we will delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
15. Contact us
